September 17 is designated as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787. On this day in 1787, the Founding Fathers signed the Constitution, which formed the basis of our government and established the framework for U.S. citizenship.

Our Opening Ceremonies for the National Veterans Parade will once again be held at the National Archives, just steps away from the display of the Constitution. During the event, we will honor all who have taken the Solemn Oath upon entering the Armed Forces. The following is the oath taken by all enlisted men and women:

“I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me”

Part of our Opening Ceremonies will feature our Grand Marshal, Scotty Hasting, an Army Purple Heart Veteran and Nashville recording artist. Fans of Scotty, as well as all who wish to support our veteran community, are invited to attend this free performance by Scotty and his band.
