Mayor’s Task Force Office Approves Historic Expansion Combining National Parade and 5K on Constitution Avenue
Washington, D.C. – For immediate release – The National Veterans Parade announced a major expansion to its annual Veterans Day weekend programming with the official approval of the inaugural National Veterans Parade NVP 5K, set to take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. in the nation’s capital.
Approved by the Mayor’s Task Force Office, the 5K will be held along the iconic parade route on Constitution Avenue, passing landmarks including the Washington Monument, just prior to the start of the National Veterans Parade. This marks the first time a 5K race and a national veterans parade will be held together in Washington, D.C., creating a unified day of movement, remembrance, and celebration.
The NVP 5K will serve as an official component of the National Veterans Parade, expanding opportunities for participation and engagement while furthering the organization’s mission to honor America’s veterans and their families.
To bring this vision to life, the National Veterans Parade has partnered with Keith Dowling, Owner of Dowling Event Management, a seasoned race director with over a decade of experience in producing large-scale running events. Dowling has successfully coordinated races with participation exceeding 30,000 runners and brings deep expertise in navigating complex logistics within Washington, D.C.
“Adding the NVP 5K is a significant milestone for our organization,” said Fran Ventura, Founder of the National Veterans Parade. “This expansion allows us to engage in a broader community, from veterans and their families to runners and supporters, while honoring service in a meaningful way. With the approval of the Mayor’s Task Force Office and the support of our partners, we are proud to introduce an experience that brings people together in tribute and participation.”
The addition of the NVP 5K is designed to increase community engagement, expand participation beyond traditional parade attendance, and raise funds to support veteran-focused organizations. Proceeds from the race will benefit veteran service organizations, including AMVETS, helping to advance programs that directly support those who have served.
The event is expected to attract a diverse audience, including veterans, active-duty service members, families, athletes, and supporters from across the country. Participants will have the unique opportunity to run along one of the nation’s most historic corridors before the parade begins, creating a powerful shared experience in the heart of Washington, D.C.
The 5K and parade are being coordinated in partnership with key agencies and organizations, including the National Park Service, DC Police, and the Navy Memorial, ensuring a safe and impactful event for all involved.
Sponsors supporting the initiative include Events DC and MetLife, whose contributions are helping bring this expanded vision to life.
Additional details regarding registration, sponsorship opportunities, and event logistics will be announced in the coming weeks.
